Glucose Challenge Test

OMG! I failed the 1 hour glucose challenge test by just 3 points. The cut off point is 135 or less and I'm 138. Some places use 140 or less as pass!. Too bad not in the practice I go to. And now, I have to go back to the lab on Thursday to do the 3 hours glucose tolerance test. It will be a very torturing test coz I will need to fast for 12 hours before the test, get my blood drawn for the fasting glucose level before drinking a glass of SWEET drink. Then, the techinician will draw my blood again an hour later, then the second hour and finally the third. I need to pass all four to declare gestational diabetes free! Even one fail, they will most likely send me to a dietician to change my diet. My ob will have to come out with a different care plan so that mommy and the babies are fine. But, if more than 1 test fail, then it is confirm that I have gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes is a pregnancy induced diabetes and it will normally go off after giving birth. However, the chances of having it again in the next pregnancy will be higher. Research also mentioned that gestational diabetes may increase the risk of Type II diabetes later in life. I've also read somewhere that having more than one baby are at increase risk of gestational diabetes. Well, I guess there is nothing much I can do except that I have to watch what I'm eating (I've been doing that already). Exercising is really impossible now coz I cant' even walk properly. Just hope that the test will turn out negative!

My weight today is 120.5lbs. A 2 pounds gained since 10 days ago. Babies heartbeats are also good. My belly is a bit tight now and it is probably because I'm running out of space.
